#1 VEJA History

Francois- Ghislain and Sebastien Kopp were faced with the sad reality of globalization in 2003 while conducting an audit of a fast-fashion company in China.

It was a combination of 5 level bunk beds and a hole in the ground for showering. This struck a chord with the couple, which inspired them to change.

#3 Are VEJA shoes true to size?

VEJA sneakers generally fit true to size, so we recommend that you choose your normal size. It may take some time for the leather to mold to your foot, as it does with all leather footwear. We recommend choosing the smaller size if you fall between two sizes.

#4 Are VEJA shoes leather?

VEJA produces both vegan and leather sneakers. VEJA is working on two main methods of production, which are different from other retailers. This will improve the quality of their sneakers. VEJA is committed to ensuring that their leather doesn’t come from the Amazon or an area deforested for cattle breeding.

To ensure leather sneakers lasts a lifetime, the skins of animals are chemically treated in a process called tanning. The environmental impact of tanning is significant. For every ton of leather tanned, there are large amounts of waste. This is not the only problem, as tanning can also release pollutants like lead, mercury, and other pathogens, polluting the environment.

VEJA wants to have an as little environmental impact as possible. This is why they use both vegetable and inoffensive tanning methods. Vegetable tanning, which is only natural tannin and has minimal impact on the environment, is used in 10% of VEJA models.

Since 2013, VEJA has also uses fish leather in its designs. The brand uses leather from freshwater fish farms, where unusable fish are not thrown away.

#5 Are VEJA Vegan?

VEJA offers a range of vegan sneakers including the V10, and the Campo.

Fair trade is another fundamental pillar of VEJA. Before a seed is planted, the brand works directly with Peruvian and Brazilian farmers to negotiate prices and contracts for organic cotton. The brand is also exploring other materials like tilapia or experiments with leathers, wild rubber, and chrome-free suede to ensure sustainability.

#6 How do you clean your VEJA sneakers

We recommend spraying your VEJA’s with a waterproof solution to keep them in top shape before you wear them.

To clean canvas VEJAs, use a brush and a high-quality cleaning product. Please do not put them in the washer, as they can rub off the leather inserts.

Leather styles require special conditioning cleaning products to preserve their quality.
